I have been slightly bias over the content of operation flashpoint 2. Being a so called hardcore gamer, first person shooters are essential on p.c. platforms, ok you may argue your point (comment). Saying that, I too own a Playstaion 3 and for that fact alone I would like to bring an old post back into circulation.
You may remember my post on OFP2 level editing kit where I asked users to cast their minds back to the original game. The original operation flashpoint included a inbuilt level editor whereby gamers could create their own levels and post them to various fan websites. With this said, I would like to point your attention to the new OFP2 editor!
Even though the game is now cross platform sources have announced that the game will NOT have in-game editing, thus loosing a great section of the game which returned a large community interest to ofp2 gamers.
“thats rubbish, you already stated above that there is an editor!” says the viewers of operation flashpoint 2 online, but P.C gamers will have the ability to create custom missions and customise their own creations. Unfortunately, Xbox 360 and Playstaion 3 gamers will not have this option. We could argue that peripherals such as keywords and mice can be connected via USB2 ports via their consoles. Even though consoles may have this ability developers relentlessly have chosen not to add peripheral functionality in games, why not? Well consoles are made for a reason, they use control pads not keywords and mice, resulting to the reason why Codemaster developers feel that game editing is best left alone for P.C interfaces not consoles.
Gamers using P.Cs to play the game will get what they hoped for and then some. A brilliant Single, Multilayer game with extra bonus functionality of game editing.
Console gamers will get what they hoped for too, a game they couldn’t play originally on Playstaion 2 and get a understanding to why P.C gamers loved the original. OK editing isn’t included but when is game editing a big part of console gaming?
To the frequent viewers of Operation Flashpoint 2 Online I will be announcing something that relates to all platforms of the game. So keep posted!

I’m glad codemasters have not ported the editor to consoles. The game shouldn’t even be ported IMO.

If Operation Flashpoint: Elite on the ORIGINIAL XBOX could have a smaller mission editor, why can’t OFP2? At least then 70% of the island they spent years building wouldn’t be wasted, and we could just lay some vehicles down and mess around exploring with them. Sometimes I just think Codemasters don’t have a f***ing clue…

The way I see it, games are developed originally from some sort of p.c. based platform any way.
It makes sense to enabled it within the pc version. After all the P.C is considered an all round multi tasking piece of hardware.
I’m not at all saying consoles don’t deserve the editor I’m just saying its meant for the pc. It would take considerable amounts of time to port the editor not to mention the game. My theory is the game play and graphics come first for consoles and anything extra is basically extra development time.
I wouldn’t see this as negative either, it just means consoles will have a well ported game with minimal bugs.
Bring on operation flashpoint 2. Can’t wait!

Take a look at the editor in Far Cry 2 - for both the 360 and PS3.
August 9th, 2009 at 6:11 am
It’s a bit of a shame but the interesting question is: will console users be able to play custom missions created by others on the PC?
August 10th, 2009 at 10:42 pm
hey you know what quit your bitching i mean cmon like they accualy read the forums online and LISTEN to our complaints. bottom line they dont care about our bitching and disatisfaction, the’ll do what they want because the video game idustry is just a bunch of toleratarian jackasses who make whatever game they want any way they want it. so bitching your ass off isnt gonna cut it you need to go to teir doorstep and slit their throats if you want to make a differace.
August 10th, 2009 at 10:50 pm
but if codemasters is really reading this forum put the editor in the councle version or ill sue your asses off (about 800 billion dollars)
August 11th, 2009 at 11:18 am
If the elite can have a friggin editor, albeit a basic one, why cant the 360 version, its just b/s if you ask me.
Far cry 2’s editor is good, and all done via a pad!. its not rocket science.
Hope the mp doesnt get too tedious and boring, atleast creating missions gives longevity to the game!.
August 22nd, 2009 at 2:50 am

August 24th, 2009 at 4:04 am
this is bs cos i just really wanted a game like arma that i could play i would get arma if my pc could handle it but wen i herd ths is comin out i was thinkin oh yeh fianly until i herd there was no mission editor so its just like a normal cod or fps shooter and also in australia the console version is worth $115 thats a bit for a game and the pc is $99 with an added extra (map editor) so i think we are gettin a bit ripped here and btw sorry for spellin typing quick lol
August 29th, 2009 at 8:29 pm

September 1st, 2009 at 5:18 pm
if the console version dont have a mission editor then
that make it a demo compared to the pc version1!!!
September 10th, 2009 at 2:50 pm
I am sooo gutted that they have completely crashed the game by not putting the mission editor on and who ever come up with this silly idea should be told to walk.
Someone with sence should step up to the challange and put one in and have a propped game again like the old ofp.
I’m rather mad after pre ordering 4 Copys for brothers and fambo to battle on and I’m cancelling the order as this will just be like any other shooter now which gets boring after a while…… Waste
September 15th, 2009 at 3:49 pm
Add the god damed map editor for the ps3. Or i`ll download this shit from the pirate bay!!!
September 18th, 2009 at 12:30 pm
I own both a p.c and a playstation 3. Still not sure which version to buy!
September 18th, 2009 at 6:54 pm
The mission editor on the original (which I have played for years and still play) could easily be made to work on a console. As stated, the xbox has usb ports so a keyboard and/or mouse are easy to hook up to it.
Even if they don’t include this in the game please allow us to purchase it via DLC xbox marketplace. There are a lot of console players that would love to have this. This was one of our favorite parts of the original.
September 22nd, 2009 at 4:10 pm
“our main focus was the mision editor” Guess that didn’t mean for consoles. Everythings a secret with codemaster which is not good. now we all get to see how they feel about there biggest market-console gamers-CROOKS
September 23rd, 2009 at 11:59 am
I’m getting the 360 version. I am very disapointed that we’re not getting the editor. What I would like to see is the editor being sold seperately for about $10 or so later on. Would be cool to be able to share missions through xbox live and such. Is it really that hard for the creators to give us this tool?
September 25th, 2009 at 7:28 am
this is such bs i was looking forward to getting this game with the mission editor cause i like making my own scenarios now this just pisses me off and its just going to be another fps i have lost hope in this title
September 25th, 2009 at 10:00 pm
Go IGN.com and read the info for the gamme it clearly states there is a mission editor on the console versions but you have to complete the main campaign first…
To all you PC fan boys dont be sad that we are getting it too even tho are hardware costs a fraction of the price and gives us all the love we want with out the constant need to upgrade are systems…
Really its ok dont cry
P.s go f**k urselves Ign should know as they are in bed with xbox live

Hey guys, According to Chirs, there is a Editor in OFP on consoles!
Anyways, I am a PC gamer and having a good PC is about the same price of the PS3 when it first came out, not to mention you are not suckered into paying extra for stuff we get for free (great example would me map packs for COD4), nor do we pay extra to play our games on the internet (XBOX Live). Besides, if the editor in this game is ANYTHING like the older game, it would be WAY to complex to make up any awesome missions. Kinda like when they made the original OFP on XBOX. I was disappointed of how much of a dumbed down version the console editor was compared to the PC.
All in all I cant wait for the game! My PC is faster then any console thats out ATM, and probably be in-line with the next line of consoles, and I didn’t even pay a grand for it.
October 3rd, 2009 at 7:17 pm
For hetsar, the release date is oct 6 in the United States. I’ve heard something about a mission editor being in some future DLC, and there will be DLC almost every month.
October 4th, 2009 at 5:34 am
as if i’m not punched in the metaphorical nuts constantly enough for being a console gamer…i think one of my jewels just shattered this time
October 4th, 2009 at 1:37 pm
Ok,this is just stupid i mean i am not rich i cannot afford to go buy a 1,000$ computer. I have an Xbox 360 and had an xbox before that and i LOVED operation flashpoint elite because (1) it was just a great game and (2) The mission Editor made the game a gift that just kept giving. I understand mabey they didnt have time for the develpment of this i mean id’ be fine if they made it DLC but i Still think its retarded they wouldnt put mission editor into the consoles
Ps. Chris which article did you read that id’ really want to see it. PLEASE
October 5th, 2009 at 10:50 am
All you PC gamers are just jealous that consoles are taking away your games. If it wasnt for all you pc gamers pirating every game you wouldnt be in this position where developers are prefering to make console games over PC games because they can actually make some money from it!!
And consoles have just as much right to be here as PC. If you keep fighting it its YOU that will be left out in the end.
October 5th, 2009 at 3:46 pm
I’ve pre-ordered this game on Play (for PS3) under the premise it was supplied with the mission editor, I’m gutted to now find out (after shelling out £39.99)that this is not the case.
There was nothing on the Play website that states the editor is solely for P.C’s.
On the official OFP2 forums, there are posts saying that the editor has been excluded from the console versions of the game.
I can appreciate the problems & obstacles of including a editor for consoles, but I feel Code Masters are guilty of intentionally misleading the public, when they had no intention of including one in the first place.
It’s a shame, but there it is! Fingers crossed it may come along as DLC in the future.
October 6th, 2009 at 9:50 pm
Well i wont know until tommorow hope fully they do he ME for 360!
October 7th, 2009 at 5:52 pm
SIMPLE, DLC ON XBOX MEANS MONEY, IF YOU MAKE YOUR OWN MAP THEN NO ONE WILL PAY FOR DLC
SO BLOCK YOU FROM MAKING YOUR OWN AND CHARGE YOU FOR THEM, WHY ELSE HAVE JUST 2 SMALL MULTIPLAYER MAPS. SHAME I LIKED JUST MOOCHING AROUND THE ISLAND IN A TRUCK OFFROADING!
October 8th, 2009 at 2:23 am
I feel bloody ripped off! I just assumed the 360 version would have an editor. I just loaded the game an hour ago, and the first thing I did was search around for the editor in vain and found this site to vent!!! I was a huge original OFP fan on the PC. I couldn’t have cared less for the campaign instead spending way too much time creating my own missions to play with my buddies. I’ve been waiting for this game for ages and I’m extremely let down.
