Well the holiday season has come! Tomorrow will be Christmas day a time for giving and receiving! To all those who don’t celebrate Christmas then enjoy the winter holidays also! Today I thought I’d like to give a re-cap of this years OFP2 information and whats on the cards for next year. As we have all expected its not likely that OFP2 will be released this year.
This Year
- Video footage released on the xbox 360 show cased at a video gaming convention earlier this year
- ARMA 2 release date revealed
- Information on gameplay and visual aspects of the game were released
- Weapon model video footage last quarter of this year
- Platform information leaked
Next Year
- Press releases of the games release and demo footage of in-game graphics
- Release dates of the various cross platforms
- E3 gaming demonstration
- OFP2 gaming community at full strength
Now I’d like to commiserate the Soldiers of Iraq from both western allied based troops, to be honest the general public forget about these affairs. With titles such as COD4 providing realistic virtualisation of real life warfare. We must step back a minute and think about real life situations and how lucky we are to be playing games in our own environments not stranded at bases working on Christmas day fighting enemy forces. Think about the family’s who are missing their partners or their children not being able to see their farther or mother over Christmas. I’m sorry to bring this up but when I’m playing games I get a sense of realism and try to relate my experiences to real life. Ok I’m a civilian but it doesn’t mean we can’t play respects to our military forces! Plus, Will the release of Operation Flashpoint 2 we wont be far away from that reality check! I know the game is based on the Skira Island near northern Japan unlike call of duty 4 but the game will provide modern military weaponry and game-play which will still give us that sense of realism.
Computer simulation is a common way of providing alternatives for military training, for example pilots will be trained using computerised simulation before they test drive aviation vehicles which cost hundreds of millions. Alternatively, gaming has this effect on public game releases to a point where public game-play was used for army simulation. Games based on the Tom Clancy series are a close call but to be honest OFP2 will offer more with regards to simulation and fulfillment of gameplay.
Oh don’t forget to check my thumbnail, I’m sure many of you have come across these familiar posters which came from the periods of world war one and two. Posters such as the above tried to provide patriotism, confidence and positive outlook on the war during different seasonal periods, the result would put a positive spin on current affairs and help the British/ US win the war!
Oh I forgot to ask! Don’t forget to leave a Christmas Present list comment with all your wish list goodies. May be you’ll be getting that xbox 360 or PS3 you dreamt of? May be your relying on Santa bringing you that console so you can play Operation Flashpoint 2, who knows! Don’t forget to POST!
Make sure you come back because there will be surprises coming over the xmas period! With inclusion of what Operation Flashpoint 2 online will be offering next year!
All the best and Have a Merry Christmas, OFP2:Online

First it was the FN SCAR Assault rifle then it was the grenade so whats next? Well i’m sure the ofp gaming community are familiar with anti-tank based weaponry? Unlike the FN SCAR riffle this piece of military kit is American made! The missile launcher is man portable so targeting enemy tanks within game should be a breeze and introduce interesting gameplay.
The anti-tank guided missile was introduced to replace the m47 dragon an old ageing launcher which was decommissioned in 1995, it was used in the gulf and iran/ iraq war. Its main failure was due to the underling fact that the missile could not effectively destory enemy targets.
The FGM-148 costs $80,000 so lets hope there is no Counter Strike based shopping carts! pretty much doubt it anyway! The javin is a fire and forget based weapon. The missile will lock onto its target and use automatic guidance to reach its destination and can reach upto 150 metres in altitude!
The technical more interesting features includes the main warhead (exploside projectile!) which includes two explosive warhead charges. Interestingly the two warheads act in two stages. The first warchead is detonated to destroy any reactive armor any vehicle may have where the second warhead is purely for maxium penetration and damage of the target. What was also interesting to point out was that the missle does have a launch delay, this is a safety feature so the operators dont actually get experience of back fire. (Was fun to watch the missile launch within the video footage!).
The weapon is totally mobile so imagine game-play when using this missile launcher to be fairly quick paced. Even though the footage didnt directly show human exposure the launcher does require a two man team within operation.

Operation Flashpoint 2 footage is all over the OFP2 community, it doesn’t take long before your confronted with yet another sleek weapon preview where the developers have given sneak real time model rendering of various weaponry. Today I would like to introduce the grenade! simple yet effective!
Unlike the FN Scar Assault rifle mentioned previously, its self explanatory to say the least. If I come across any new footage or weaponry I have not encountered before I will try and introduce the new weapon in-depth, so gamers can get a true realistic feel and understanding of in-game weaponry!

I would like to kick things off with the FN Scar assault combat rifle made by Fabrique Nationale de Herstal hence the abbreviation FN. They are a belgian based manufacturer of firearms and have created other well known weapons such as the p90 sub-machine gun and other FN prefixed weaponry.
The FN Scar comes in two main flavours, the light SCAR-L and the heavy SCAR-H, depending on the barrel size is dependant on the environment and range of the given target. I can imagine OFP2 will adopt the long range version simply because of the gaming geographical environment.
The video didn’t however show the grenade launcher module. The weapon in reality can attached a module for grenade propulsion. Will OFP2 in-corporation this also? Specifications are still very brief!
Keep posted for more video weaponry

There was a chance that console gamers could get their hands on operation flashpoint 2 this Christmas but unfortunately this will not be the case. Codemasters have announced that they are re-deploying the games release ’some point next year’. So we can easily assume we have no idea of its released but we could estimate that the game will be released in spring of 2009.
Codemasters will be releasing ofp2 teaser trailers for us to watch, will this help the extended release date? Well no, but at least its something! So keep checking my operation flashpoint 2 video section for more trailers.
