Operation Flashpoint 2 Online

| Your Gaming Resource!

Hello to those of you re-visiting, if your not then Hello new comers! Today I want to briefly write about knowledge of game play and weaponry. All information has been released from codemasters during press releases and developer interviews.

Game play
The first feature that caught my eye was the inability to store a arsenal of weapons from grenade launchers and sniper rifles. As mentioned in previous post **LINK** the game is a simulator not a general FPS. Ok this may sound negative but its the best implementation of realistic gameplay. Weapons must be carried and anything else must be assembled from scratch, so there is nothing un-realstic about it.

During combat sequences its not a case of firing and reloading with a blink of an eye but more as a sequence, more military style by the book kind of thing. Players must place their gun down into position for sniping, after deploying your machine gun it must be then placed by on your shoulder before moving on. Even tuning your weapon for combat is highlighted, nothing has been over engineered.

Weaponry
The game has a whopping 70 infantry weapons within the game. This doesn’t come as a surprise but imagine the possabilities. Online gamers can actually pick their favourite weapon without everybody either having a ak47 or m4a1! Game play will vary tremendously , you could say a server with 32 players would all have a unique weapon, something that makes the game better than the rest!

Bellow are varying weapon types available to the gamer:

  • Anti Tank
  • Anti-aircraft
  • shotguns
  • sub-machine gun
  • pistols
  • Sub Machine Guns
  • Heavy Machine Guns
  • Varying Rifles
  • assault rifles
  • Sniper rifle

Each weapon can be customised with different scopes and add-ons. The usual weapon attachments would be suppressors, different aiming sights and other varying weapon goodies that are still un-disclosed. It should be interesting to see the out-come and what extra are actually available.

Keep looking for up-dates, I will give you a hint into what my next topic will be! Theres 50 of them! There you go!

On monday Codemasters leaked information on the geographical aspect of the game! Today I will be looking into the physics of Dragon Rising along with gameplay and other general goodies.

Physical Destruction
Physics in first person shooters usually lacks when it comes to building structures. Dragon Rising incorporates a multi-stage multi level demolition approach to allow a more realistic approach to game play. So for instance, hiding in a building whilst a tank is aiming at you is not going to be a good stealth tactic.

Soldiers axis/ Allie
With the first version of Operation Flashpoint characters seemed life like and unique, there is no change in this version too. The incorporation of unique models allows the creation of unique enemy’s, “not repetitive German soldiers running at you!” The main reason why this is being incorporated is to allow the gamer to visually pin point who is friednly and who is the enemy, creating a real life enviroment whilst gaming!

Animation/ Motions

The motion capture sequences have been developed with special forces, which special forces I don’t know but I will find out! The new engine implements extra animation for vehicles and model actions. The new engine has a set of unique animations for mounting vehicles and jumping over small walls, these are just few of many new animations added to the game.

last but not least, physics within the game also introduces interactivity with life like objects, for example Kicking through a door to gain access, moving objects for cover! I can imagine games such as half life 2 that support physics interactivity with also be adopted within operation flashpoint 2.

All the above mentioned are key features why this game simulator will achieve great results on release! Come back and find out more latest news from OFP2:O.

Here at Operation Flashpoint 2 Online we are dedicated to giving you the latest information on the Internet for the long awaited sequel Operation Flashpoint 2 : Dragon Rising.

Codemasters has released information on the what the gamer has to offer so far. Any previous Operation flashpoint gamer already understands the vast geographical game play the engine has to offer, So lets have a look into what OFP2  Devlopers have to offer.

The island

The island of which is game is based on is named Skira Island, the  island is around 220 km² which in-corporates different terrain types to achieve different gaming environments for the player.

Terrain types include:

  • Swamps - Rainbox six favourite
  • Grasslands
  • Forest - OFP flash back!
  • Rocky Mountains

Geographically the island is located in north Japan, Skira is part of a chain of islands called the scarlet islands. The island has been liberated by China, Japan and Russia during the cold war of WW2. Today, Skira prized raw material is oil, with the largest oil reserve in the world! Could this possibility be the focus of the game?

Now, lets get back to the gameplay! Bellow are some features that might make you realise how vast the engine is and what the game has to offer from a geographical point of view.

In real time:

  • It takes 4 and a half hours to walk across the island!
  • This could be halved  if using a vehicle such as a jeep
  • Fastest method is by aircraft which takes 20 minutes

The research and development team was sent to the the island of Skira to collect as much information through photographs and documents. This has resulted in the game using real life places which gives players the chance to play missions in real life environments!

As always codemasters believe by achieving this result the game offers free flowing non guided tactics and strategy, something that most First person Shooters are lacking.

So far the game offers a lot in-terms of realism and game play, Operation Flashpoint 2 Online will be providing you with more news to come! Bookmark us and come back! Just watch this space -> <-
